The RibiRewards 2026 year in numbers: platform stats, markets, and what we learned
Platform stats, markets reached, and what we actually learned this year — an honest review, not just a highlight reel.
What the data shows
The headline numbers from the RibiRewards platform in 2026 reflect the state of employee rewards infrastructure across Africa: recognition sends are up, but redemption completion rates still show room to improve across all markets. The most significant growth has been in WhatsApp-delivered recognition, which now accounts for the majority of sends across Nigerian, Kenyan, and Ghanaian companies. Physical card programmes remain dominant in South Africa and Egypt. The market that showed the highest year-on-year growth in programme adoption was Egypt, driven partly by multinational companies localising their reward programmes for the first time.
What this means for Africa specifically
2026 was the year that African HR teams started asking for data in the sales process rather than just case studies. The shift reflects a maturation in how people operations leaders evaluate technology — from 'does this exist?' to 'what does this produce?'. Every number in this report reflects that shift, and informs how we design the product going forward.
What HR teams should do
- Review your own platform's annual statistics report and compare recognition volume, redemption rate, and market coverage against your original programme goals
- If your platform does not produce an annual data summary, that is a gap in your vendor relationship — request it
- Use year-end platform data to build your 2027 programme targets — setting specific frequency and redemption goals rather than 'run the programme again'
