The business case for Learning & Development
Benefits don't just make people happy — they reduce attrition, improve focus, and signal that leadership cares about the full picture of an employee's life.
L&D is now a retention tool
- 74% of employees in Africa say lack of growth opportunities is a top reason for leaving
- Companies that invest in L&D see 30–50% lower attrition in technical roles
- L&D benefits signal a company's belief in its people — powerful for culture-building
The skill gap is real
- African companies consistently cite skill gaps as a top growth constraint
- Upskilling in-house is more cost-effective than recruiting externally
- Digital platforms make high-quality L&D accessible without travel or time away
HR team advantages
- No need to manage course procurement or vendor relationships
- Employees choose platforms that suit their learning style and schedule
- Track learning spend and completion rates through your RibiRewards dashboard
Our engineers used their L&D credits to get AWS certified. Within six months, three of them got promoted internally instead of going to competitors. The ROI was obvious.

Common questions
Can employees choose any course or platform?
Employees can choose from our supported platform network. We're continually adding new platforms — if your team has specific preferences, let your account manager know and we'll work to add them.
How are MBA contributions structured?
MBA contributions can be set as monthly allowances or one-off annual grants. You define the amount; RibiRewards handles disbursement and reporting.
Can L&D budgets be split across platforms?
Yes. Employees can allocate their monthly L&D budget across multiple platforms — e.g., spend part on a Coursera course and part on a professional book.
Is there a minimum L&D budget per employee?
No minimum. You set the budget that works for your company. We recommend a minimum of ₦10,000 / KES 2,000 per month to provide meaningful learning access.
