Corporate gifting via API in Africa — sending at scale

The traditional corporate gifting experience in Africa involves a procurement officer, a supplier relationship, physical hampers, delivery logistics, and a two-week lead time. For a company sending fifty gifts in Lagos, this is manageable. For a company sending five hundred gifts across seven African markets by Friday, it is not.

Corporate gifting occasions are predictable: year-end, Eid, Christmas, client anniversaries, employee milestones, product launches. The pain is also predictable: who coordinates the list, how do you get addresses for recipients in Nairobi and Abidjan, what happens when a hamper doesn't arrive, and how do you know what was actually delivered?

API-based gift card delivery eliminates the logistics layer entirely. The procurement process becomes: upload a list of phone numbers, select a gift amount and category, confirm and send. Recipients receive their gift via SMS within minutes. No addresses, no couriers, no follow-up calls.

What corporate gifting via API looks like operationally

  • 1.Batch upload: A CSV of recipient phone numbers and (optionally) names is uploaded to the platform or sent via API call. Each recipient can have a personalised message.
  • 2.Gift selection: The sender selects the gift value and category — grocery, fuel, dining, retail, or open choice — or allows recipients to choose from a curated catalogue.
  • 3.Delivery: Recipients receive an SMS with a personalised greeting and a gift card code or claim link. Delivery confirmation is logged per recipient.
  • 4.Redemption tracking: The platform tracks which recipients have claimed their gift, at what merchant, and at what time. Unredeemed gifts after a defined period can be reassigned or refunded.

A gift that arrives in under sixty seconds, on any phone, in any of twelve African countries, is a better gift than a hamper that might arrive next week.

Multi-country gifting without five vendors

For companies operating across multiple African markets, the traditional gifting model requires a different supplier relationship in every country — a hamper company in Nigeria, a different one in Kenya, another in Ghana. Each has different lead times, pricing, quality standards, and invoicing requirements.

A single API covering twelve African markets means one purchase order, one invoice, one redemption catalogue (localised per country), and one dashboard showing delivery status across all recipients. The gift amount is set in USD or local currency; the platform handles local conversion and merchant network routing per country.

Common corporate gifting use cases

  • →Year-end client gifts: Send to entire client list by December 20 with a personalised message from the account team.
  • →Employee recognition: Spot bonuses, long-service awards, and performance rewards delivered immediately without payroll processing.
  • →Event attendance gifts: Send a thank-you gift to everyone who attended a conference, product launch, or client event.
  • →New hire welcome gift: Onboarding gift delivered to the new employee's phone on day one.
  • →Eid / Christmas / holiday gifts: Bulk send to staff and clients with a seasonal message and appropriate gift category.

Finance and compliance

API-based gift card delivery generates a complete disbursement record: recipient, amount, delivery timestamp, redemption status. This satisfies most corporate expense reporting and audit requirements without additional record-keeping. For large programmes, per-recipient gift values can be exported for tax reporting purposes where benefit-in-kind rules apply.
