How to send bulk gifts across 12 African markets
The operational challenge of sending gifts to 500 people across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Rwanda, Zambia, and Ethiopia has historically required a different vendor relationship in each country. This guide covers how to do it from a single platform in under a day.
The occasions that require multi-market gifting at scale are predictable: year-end, product launches, new hire onboarding waves, conference attendee appreciation, client anniversary programmes. The pain is also predictable: twelve countries, twelve procurement conversations, twelve invoices, and still no guarantee that the gift in Accra is equivalent in value to the one in Nairobi.
Step-by-step: bulk gift send across African markets
- 1.Prepare your recipient file: A CSV with three required columns — recipient name, phone number (with country code), and gift value in USD. Optional: personalised message per recipient, country override if your phone numbers don't include country codes.
- 2.Select gift categories per market or globally: Choose whether all recipients receive the same category (grocery, fuel, open choice) or whether each market gets the locally most relevant option. RibiRewards Payout defaults to the highest-utility category per market if no preference is specified.
- 3.Set your send date and time: Schedule for a specific date and time, or send immediately. For year-end gifts, scheduling for the morning of the intended date ensures recipients receive their gift during business hours.
- 4.Review the delivery preview: The platform shows you a sample of what each recipient will see — the SMS text, the gift value in local currency, the merchant options available in their country. Review and approve before send.
- 5.Confirm and send: Single confirmation triggers delivery across all markets simultaneously. Each recipient receives an SMS within minutes.
- 6.Monitor the delivery dashboard: Real-time delivery confirmation per recipient. Unredeemed gifts flagged after 48 hours for follow-up. Full export available for finance reconciliation.
Five hundred gifts across twelve countries. One CSV, one confirmation, one invoice. Everything else is handled.
Currency conversion
Gift values specified in USD are automatically converted to local currency at the time of send. The recipient sees and receives a locally denominated gift — ₦ for Nigeria, KSh for Kenya, GH₵ for Ghana. No FX exposure for the sender; no foreign currency confusion for the recipient.
